Five things to ask when reviewing your IT support

Different IT companies do things differently, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, there are some basic things that you should expect from your IT Support provider.

So don’t settle for less and make sure that your IT provider ticks all the five “boxes” below.

1 – Do they have an IT engineer on call, always?

As a rule of thumb, IT Support Providers should have at least 2-3 full-time engineers to cover illness and holidays so that you know that whoever is looking after your system is familiar with it.

Familiar engineers provide peace of mind. So a single IT engineer who is maybe covered by agency staff when they are unavailable is not ideal for your business.

2 – Are your IT passwords stored on a secure password manager?

Surprisingly, some providers do not offer this seemingly basic feature. All reputable IT Support Providers will store your passwords on the safest and most secure system, so you do not have to worry.

3 – Do they provide quarterly business reviews?

Depending on the size of your business, it is recommended to have at least quarterly reviews as a minimum. This is to ensure you are happy with the service, and that you are making the most of technology to improve your business competitiveness and efficiency.

4 – Do they offer a trial prior to signing up?

This demonstrates confidence in their brand and their service. A company who offers a trial is actively inviting potential clients to scrutinise and experience their services first-hand before choosing whether to continue long term.

5 – Do they have a clear complaints procedure in place?

If you are not happy about something, it should be noted, and your IT support provider shouldn’t be hiding behind their mistakes. A proper complaints procedure shows that the provider is willing to accept when they are wrong, and correct wrongdoings.

Some IT Support Providers offer account managers, so you have an individual contact. You should at least have a name.
